KARACHI (Agencies): The Maritime Security Exercise SEA GUARD-24 has begun in Karachi. The opening brief was attended by Commander Coast Vice Admiral Raja Rab Nawaz as the Chief Guest.
The exercise brings together representatives from various ministries, departments, and organizations connected to the maritime sector. These include the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Ministry of Livestock and Fishing Sindh, Ministry of National Food Security and Research, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Narcotics Control, as well as private entities and NGOs. They are all united in addressing the diverse challenges of the Maritime arena, from both traditional and non-traditional threats.
The session was attended by leaders from various organizations such as the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation, Anti-Narcotics Force, Pakistan Coast Guards, PMSA, KPT, Port QASIM, BYCO Petroleum, along with other notable individuals from the private sector and fishing community.
The goal of Exercise Sea Guard is to unify the efforts of all stakeholders within their legal boundaries through the Joint Maritime Information Coordination Centre (JMICC) to ensure the security of Pakistan’s Maritime Zones. Participants were informed about the working methodology and contributions of JMICC to ensure maritime safety and security along the coastline during the opening brief. Commander Coast Vice Admiral Raja Rab Nawaz praised all stakeholders for their efforts towards a safer maritime environment.
The exercise will involve various practical scenario-based exercises at sea and Table Top Discussions to enhance the existing security mechanism. The exercise is set to conclude with a debriefing session on January 18, 2024.
