Islamabad (Khyber Mail): The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has bolstered its aerial capabilities with the induction of another unit of the Baykar Akinci High-Altitude Long-Endurance (HALE) unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV). This addition marks a significant enhancement in the PAF’s operational strength and technological prowess.

The Baykar Akinci, developed by Turkish defense company Baykar, is one of the most advanced drones in the world. It boasts a maximum take-off weight of 6 tons and can carry a payload of up to 1,350 kilograms. The drone is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including an active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar and air-to-air missiles such as Gökdo?an and Bozdo?an.

Key features of the Baykar Akinci include:

  • Endurance: Capable of flying for up to 24 hours.
  • Service Ceiling: Can operate at altitudes of up to 40,000 feet (12,192 meters).
  • Speed: Achieves a top speed of 195 knots.
  • Payload Capacity: Can carry a diverse array of weapons and equipment, including air-to-surface munitions and air-to-air missiles.

The induction of the Akinci is a strategic move for the PAF, providing enhanced surveillance, intelligence, and strike capabilities. This drone’s versatility allows it to perform a wide range of missions, from long-haul intelligence and reconnaissance to stand-off range strikes. It also offers potential for novel applications such as drone-based airborne early warning (AEW).
