Berlin (Agencies): Germany has announced the closure of all three Iranian consulates in the country – located in Frankfurt, Munich, and Hamburg – in response to the execution of Jamshid Sharmahd, a German-Iranian nationa.

The decision was announced by Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock on October 31, 2024.
The German Foreign Ministry had already recalled its ambassador to Iran and summoned the Iranian charge d’affaires to protest Sharmahd’s execution.

Sharmahd, who was executed on terrorism charges in Iran, was accused of leading a group that planned attacks in Iran.

His execution has significantly strained relations between Germany and Iran.

Despite the consulate closures, Germany will allow Iran’s embassy in Berlin to remain open.
