Kyiv, Ukraine (Agencies): Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on December 6, 2024, the unveiling of a new missile-drone hybrid called Peklo (meaning “Hell” in Ukrainian). The first batch of these weapons has already been delivered to Ukraine’s Armed Forces.
The Peklo missile-drone boasts a range of 700 kilometers (430 miles) and a speed of 700 km/h (430 mph). It has already been successfully deployed five times and is seen as a critical component of Ukraine’s defense strategy. The missile-drone is cost-effective and rivals some Russian cruise missiles in performance.
Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of scaling up production and deployment of the Peklo to ensure Ukraine’s defenders have access to modern weaponry. The missile-drone development program has gained momentum since Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022.
This new weapon is part of Ukraine’s broader efforts to enhance its military capabilities and reduce reliance on Western arms, whose use is often restricted.
