Hanoi (Agencies): It has been officially confirmed that China and Vietnam will collaborate on constructing three major railway routes: Lao Cai-Hanoi-Hai Phong, Lang Son-Hanoi, and Mong Cai-Ha Long-Hai Phong.

It was one of the conditions for Xi’s visit to Vietnam in December 2023

The project aims to enhance connectivity between the two countries and boost economic development in the region. The Lao Cai-Hanoi-Hai Phong railway, for instance, is expected to stretch approximately 380 kilometers and will be a double-tracked standard-gauge railway.

The project is scheduled to commence in December 2025 and is estimated to cost around $11 billion.

Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized the importance of this project in advancing the Belt and Road Initiative and promoting socio-economic development in Vietnam’s northern border provinces.

The collaboration is also expected to provide Yunnan Province in China with faster access to the sea.
