Riyadh (Agencies): Saudi Arabia has completed the full operation of Riyadh Metro, the world’s longest driverless train system, with the official launch of the Orange Line (Line 3), the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) announced. This milestone finalizes the rollout of all six lines, significantly transforming public transportation in the Saudi capital.
The Orange Line stretches 41 kilometers, linking Riyadh’s east and west from Jeddah Road to the Second Eastern Ring Road near Khashm Al-Aan. Operational stations include Jeddah Road, Tuwaiq, Douh, Harun Al-Rashid Road, and Al-Naseem, which connects to the Purple Line, enhancing network integration.
Additionally, three stations—Al Morooj, Bank Al Bilad, and King Fahd Library—have opened on the Blue Line. The Riyadh Metro project, inaugurated by King Salman Bin Abdulaziz on November 27, 2024, began phased operations on December 1, starting with the Blue, Yellow, and Purple Lines, followed by the Red and Green Lines on December 15.
Built in collaboration with international consortiums, the $22.5 billion project commenced in 2013 and stands as a cornerstone of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 initiative, which seeks to diversify the economy and promote sustainable infrastructure.
Spanning 176 kilometers and 85 stations, Riyadh Metro aims to improve mobility for residents and visitors, offering a modern, eco-friendly alternative to private vehicles while addressing Riyadh’s expanding transportation needs.
