Islamabad (Khyber Mail): Ambassador Dato’ Mohammad Azhar Mazlan, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Pakistan, engaged in an academic discourse with students at Riphah International University, Islamabad, highlighting the deep-rooted bilateral relations between Malaysia and Pakistan.

Upon arrival, the High Commissioner and his delegation were warmly received by Prof. Dr. Anis Ahmad, Founding Vice-Chancellor of Riphah International University. The session was attended by academicians, staff, and around 100 students from public administration and international relations disciplines.

Ambassador Dato’ Azhar provided insights into Malaysia’s journey from independence to modernization, emphasizing the strong diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations. He praised the outcomes of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s official visit to Pakistan in October 2024, which further strengthened strategic partnerships in various sectors.

Discussing Malaysia’s foreign policies, the envoy highlighted the country’s role as ASEAN Chairman 2025 and its commitment to regional stability and development. He also introduced the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Program (MTCP), a key initiative in capacity-building and development cooperation between Malaysia and Pakistan.

A major focus of the session was educational opportunities in Malaysia for Pakistani students. The High Commissioner emphasized Malaysia’s modern education system, globally recognized institutions, and a Muslim-friendly learning environment. He noted that nearly 5,000 Pakistani students are currently pursuing higher education in Malaysia.

The event concluded with a Q&A session, followed by a taste of Malaysian culture through its cuisine. Students and faculty were served Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng, offering them a glimpse into Malaysia’s rich culinary heritage.
