Washington, D.C. (Agencies): In the early hours of Sunday, the U.S. Secret Service shot an armed man outside the White House following an “armed confrontation.” The incident occurred after local police tipped off the Secret Service about a “suicidal individual” who might be traveling to Washington, D.C., from Indiana.

Secret Service officers approached a man matching the description near the intersection of 17th and F Streets NW. As officers approached, the individual brandished a firearm, leading to shots being fired by Secret Service personnel. The man was transported to a hospital, and his condition is currently unknown.

President Donald Trump was not in the White House at the time, as he was spending the weekend at his Florida residence, Mar-a-Lago. The incident is now under investigation by Washington’s Metropolitan Police, which handles all law-enforcement shootings in the District of Columbia.
