Islamabad (Adnan Hameed): Ambassador of Uzbekistan, Alisher Tukhtaev, met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister House to discuss strengthening bilateral ties and advancing economic cooperation.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended warm greetings to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan and expressed gratitude for the hospitality shown during his recent visit to Tashkent. He highlighted the significant progress achieved during the visit, including the establishment of a High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council and the signing of multiple agreements and MOUs across various sectors.

The Prime Minister emphasized Pakistan’s keen interest in enhancing collaboration with Uzbekistan in areas such as mining and minerals, railways (including the Trans Afghan Railways project), Special Economic Zones (SEZs), banking, tourism, culture, and renewable energy. He also stressed the importance of creating a roadmap to boost bilateral trade to USD 2 billion, as agreed upon by the two leaders.

Ambassador Tukhtaev conveyed President Mirziyoyev’s commitment to strengthening ties with Pakistan and transforming the strong political relationship into mutually beneficial economic partnerships. He also confirmed that President Mirziyoyev had accepted the Prime Minister’s invitation for an official visit to Pakistan later this year, with dates to be finalized soon.

This meeting underscores the growing partnership between Pakistan and Uzbekistan, aiming to foster deeper economic and strategic collaboration.
