New Delhi (Agencies): In a deeply troubling incident, Ankita Pradhan, the fiancée of an Indian Army officer and daughter of a retired Army officer, has alleged that she was assaulted by police personnel at the Bharatpur Police Station in Bhubaneswar. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and calls for justice.
Ankita Pradhan and her fiancé, Major Gurbant Singh, went to the police station to report a road rage incident. Instead of receiving assistance, they were allegedly harassed and assaulted by the police. Ankita has accused the police of attempting to sexually assault her during the ordeal.
Following the incident, the Odisha Crime Branch has registered a criminal case against five police personnel, including the Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Dinakrushna Mishra and Sub Inspector Baisalini Panda. The Director General of Police (DGP) of Odisha has suspended the involved officers and ordered a thorough investigation.
The Orissa High Court has granted conditional bail to Ankita Pradhan and directed the state government to ensure her medical treatment and bear the expenses. The court has also called for an impartial probe into the incident and cautioned the police against repeating such actions in the future.
This incident has highlighted serious concerns about police conduct and accountability in Odisha, prompting demands for systemic reforms to prevent such occurrences in the future.
