Beijing (Agencies): In a significant escalation of trade and diplomatic tensions, China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) announced on Thursday the addition of 28 US entities to its export control list and 10 others to its unreliable entities list. The measures, aimed at safeguarding national security and opposing arms sales to Taiwan, reflect China’s firm stance on national sovereignty and trade violations.
Among the sanctioned companies are major US defense contractors such as General Dynamics, Boeing Defense, Space & Security, and Lockheed Martin. These entities are now prohibited from receiving dual-use items from China, with immediate cessation of ongoing exports. Any future export activities require special permission from MOFCOM.
The 10 companies added to the unreliable entities list include Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, and face stringent restrictions. They are barred from trade and investment activities in China, while their executives are prohibited from entering the country. Work permits and residency applications for these firms’ personnel will also be revoked.
MOFCOM emphasized that the move is rooted in Chinese law and international obligations, targeting only those entities involved in activities detrimental to China’s national interests. A ministry spokesperson underscored that arms sales to Taiwan seriously violate the one-China principle and undermine regional stability.
China reiterated its commitment to fostering a fair and open business environment for law-abiding foreign enterprises. The spokesperson stressed that compliant businesses have no cause for concern, highlighting the nation’s dedication to high-level trade openness.
This latest action follows MOFCOM’s December tightening of export controls on dual-use materials, including gallium and graphite, to the US. Experts noted that unlike US sanctions, China’s measures adhere strictly to regulatory frameworks and are not arbitrary.
The sanctions underscore China’s resolve to counter perceived threats to its sovereignty, signaling further strain in Sino-US relations amid ongoing geopolitical friction over Taiwan.
