Amsterdam (Agencies): Universities worldwide are joining the student movements initiated by American and Western universities in solidarity with Palestinians.
In the Netherlands, students at the University of Amsterdam have set up a campus camp in solidarity with Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, which has been under a devastating Israeli war for seven months. They are urging the university administration to sever ties with Israel-affiliated institutions.
In Spain, pro-Palestine demonstrations have spread across various universities in the Basque regions, Navarre, Aragon, Andalusia, and Catalonia. Students at the University of Basque Country and Navarre have announced indefinite protests by setting up camps.
In France, students from the University of Paris 8 demonstrated in support of Gaza, denouncing the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip. They chanted slogans such as “Freedom for Palestine”, “Stop genocide”, and “Long live Palestine”.
In Bangladesh, students from various universities organized a march in support of Palestine, demanding an end to the genocide in Gaza. They raised Palestinian flags and chanted slogans such as “Free Palestine” and “Stop genocide”.
On April 18, students and academics at Columbia University in New York who opposed the war on Gaza began a sit-in on campus. They demanded that the university administration stop its academic cooperation with Israeli universities and withdraw its investments in companies supporting the Occupation of Palestinian Territories.
Following police intervention and the arrest of dozens of protesters, the anger spread to universities in other countries such as France, Britain, Germany, Canada, and India. These universities witnessed demonstrations and demands to stop the war on Gaza and boycott companies supplying weapons to Israel.
