New Delhi (Agencies): India’s Ministry of Defence has unveiled the ‘Sanjay – Battlefield Surveillance System (BSS)’, a cutting-edge platform designed to revolutionize the Indian Army’s intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities. The system was officially launched on January 24 by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh at the MoD headquarters in South Block, New Delhi.
Developed in collaboration with state-owned Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), the Sanjay-BSS integrates inputs from ground and aerial sensors to create a unified and comprehensive battlefield surveillance picture. According to the Press Information Bureau (PIB), the system utilizes advanced artificial intelligence (AI) and data-processing techniques to verify, de-duplicate, and fuse information into a real-time tactical overview.
The Sanjay-BSS relies on a secure army data network and satellite communication systems for data transmission, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in sharing critical information. It includes a monitoring center, a communication control unit, and other terminals, with an intuitive geographic information system (GIS) that displays battlefield details on a digital map.
By offering commanders enhanced situational awareness, the Sanjay-BSS is expected to serve as a force multiplier in both conventional and sub-conventional operations. The system’s ability to identify and assess potential threats in a network-centric environment is seen as a significant boost to India’s defense infrastructure.
Defence officials highlighted the system’s potential to strengthen India’s operational preparedness and safeguard its borders against intrusions and emerging threats. This development marks another milestone in India’s efforts to modernize its armed forces with indigenous technology.
