Dear Sir/Madam,
I am a student of Sukkur IBA University, writing to express my deep concern about the deteriorating focus on academics and the growing political influence at our institution.
Sukkur IBA was the late Nisar Ahmed Siddique’s vision of merit, quality, and excellence, with a strong commitment to prioritizing students’ needs. However, this vision seems to have been completely overturned.
Recently, the university’s library—a critical resource during exam days—has been closed repeatedly for political events. It was shut for one day during the visit of Chief Minister Sayed Murad Ali Shah for the inauguration of Academic Block V. Now, it was closed for two days to accommodate the visit of PPP Chairman and former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari as the chief guest for the 11th convocation.
This raises several questions: Is this what the late Nisar Siddique envisioned for IBA? Is this the “merit, quality, and excellence” we were promised? Why are libraries—essential spaces for students—being sacrificed for political marketing? Could these events not be hosted elsewhere without disrupting academic activities?
If this trend continues, I fear for the future of Sukkur IBA. The institution risks losing its credibility and falling into the category of failed universities in terms of quality education.
I urge the administration to rethink its priorities and refocus on the needs of students rather than using the university as a platform for political promotion.
Sincerely,
Muhammad Nawaz
Sukkur
