TRIPOLI (Agencies): The Central Bank of Libya announced today that it will begin circulating a new 10-dinar banknote from Sunday. The new note, which maintains the security features of its predecessor, bears the signature of Central Bank Governor Naji Issa. This release forms part of a broader currency update announced in January, which includes plans for new five-dinar and 20-dinar denominations.
According to bank officials, the 10-dinar note will enter circulation first, with other denominations to follow. The currency rollout comes amid wider efforts to increase liquidity in Libya’s banking system. In October, the Central Bank pledged to distribute 15 billion dinars to banks across the country, with distributions set to commence in November.
The new banknotes will circulate alongside existing currency already in use, the bank said in a statement.
