Rabat, Morocco (Agencies): Doctors working in public hospitals across Morocco have announced a three-day strike starting today to demand improved working conditions and salaries. The Independent Union of Public Sector Doctors stated that this strike is the first phase of a three-week protest campaign, which will also include protest sit-ins2.

In April, Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch announced a monthly salary increase of 3,800 dirhams ($380) for doctors with a state doctorate, addressing a long-standing demand. Despite this, doctors continue to face challenges, including emigration to European hospitals2.

The strike comes after Moroccan medical students recently ended an 11-month boycott of their studies, protesting the reduction of their medical degree course from seven to six years.
