New Orleans (Agencies): In a devastating incident early Wednesday morning, at least 10 people were killed and 30 injured when a driver intentionally rammed a pickup truck into a crowd during New Year’s celebrations on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. The driver, whose actions were described as “very intentional” by police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick, also shot at police officers, hitting two who are now in stable condition.

Federal law enforcement agents are investigating possible improvised explosive devices at the scene, with video footage showing a law enforcement robot examining the underside of the vehicle. The attack occurred just hours before the city was set to host The Sugar Bowl, an annual college football game drawing fans from across the country.

The FBI has taken over the investigation, with Assistant Special Agent in Charge Alethea Duncan confirming the presence of suspected explosive devices. The 30 injured individuals have been transported to five hospitals across the city, including University Medical Center and Touro Hospital.

The incident has left the community in shock, with widespread demonstrations and calls for justice as the investigation continues.
