Peshawar (Khyber Mail): Mr. Abid Nawaz, a PhD scholar at the National Centre of Excellence in Geology (NCEG), University of Peshawar, successfully defended his doctoral thesis, earning praise from faculty and experts in the field.

His research, titled “Effects of Heat Treatment and Freeze-Thaw Cycling on Mechanical Behavior of Rocks,” was supervised by Dr. Muhammad Sajid, Assistant Professor in the Department of Geology, University of Peshawar, and co-supervised by Dr. Waqas Ahmed, Associate Professor at NCEG. The external evaluation was conducted by Dr. M. Zafar from Bahria University Islamabad.

The study focused on analyzing temperature variations—from sub-freezing conditions to 1000°C—and their impact on different rock types found in Northern Pakistan. The research outcomes hold significant practical value for both small-scale and large-scale civil and infrastructure projects in the region.

According to a press release from NCEG, Mr. Nawaz has published four research papers in internationally reputed journals based on his study. His work received critical acclaim from the examination committee and audience members, who acknowledged its strong academic and applied significance.

The successful defense marks a notable achievement for Mr. Abid Nawaz and contributes valuable insights to geological and engineering applications in Pakistan.
