Islamabad, Pakistan (Agencies): Azerbaijan has expressed significant interest in investing in two major motorway projects in Pakistan: the M6 (Sukkur-Hyderabad) and the M9 (Karachi-Hyderabad). This development follows a series of high-level discussions initiated after a visit by Pakistani officials to Azerbaijan.
The M9 Motorway, a 136-kilometer route, serves as a vital link between Karachi and Hyderabad, while the M6 Motorway, stretching 306 kilometers, will connect Sukkur to Hyderabad. These projects are crucial for enhancing Pakistan’s transportation network, facilitating smoother movement of goods and passengers, and supporting regional trade.
During a recent meeting chaired by Pakistan’s Minister for Investment, Privatization, and Communications, Abdul Aleem Khan, it was revealed that Azerbaijani institutions are keen to invest in these motorways. The discussions focused on leveraging a government-to-government (G2G) investment model to ensure efficient collaboration between the two nations.
Minister Khan emphasized the importance of attracting investments from Central Asian countries, including Azerbaijan, to accelerate infrastructure development in Pakistan. He highlighted how Azerbaijan’s participation could foster stronger economic ties between Pakistan and the Central Asian region, as well as expand connectivity to Eastern Europe.
The National Highway Authority (NHA) is overseeing the development of the M6 and M9 motorways and is working closely with Azerbaijani partners to move the projects forward. Pakistan plans to host Azerbaijani representatives in December for a detailed discussion on finalizing cooperation agreements.
This investment plan is expected to boost infrastructure development in Pakistan and strengthen trade ties between the two countries.
