Islamabad (Khyber Mail): The China Chamber of Commerce in Pakistan, in collaboration with the Institute of Regional Studies (IRS), organized a significant event in Islamabad to launch two highly anticipated reports: “The Glorious 11 Years – How Chinese Companies Reshaped the Power Sector in Pakistan” and “The Business Climate Index of Chinese Companies in Pakistan”. The event was marked by prominent speeches and a diverse gathering of dignitaries, business leaders, and members of the academic community.

H.E. Jiang Zaidong, the Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the transformative impact Chinese companies have had on reshaping Pakistan’s future. He highlighted substantial improvements in Pakistan’s energy sector due to Chinese investments, noting that these projects have not only strengthened the country’s energy infrastructure but also created significant job opportunities for Pakistani youth, empowering them with various skill sets. Ambassador Zaidong further remarked on how these investments have contributed to the improvement of Pakistan’s foreign reserves, underscoring the mutual benefits of China-Pakistan cooperation.

Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gilani also addressed the attendees, commending Chinese investment in Pakistan and stating that the launch of these reports attests to the transparency and efficiency within Pakistan’s power sector. He reiterated that Pakistan continues to benefit from China’s unwavering support and investment, which is a testament to the deep and growing economic partnership between the two countries.

Minister for Information, Ata Tarar, congratulated the Chinese companies for their impressive success, acknowledging the wide array of opportunities that China offers Pakistan. He expressed optimism about future collaboration, underscoring the potential for even greater economic cooperation.

Minister for Finance, Muhammad Aurangzeb, praised the role of Chinese companies and their significant contributions to Pakistan’s economic development. He highlighted how these investments have been pivotal in driving growth, improving infrastructure, and providing critical support to key sectors.

Senator Saleem Mandviwalla underscored the importance of China’s ongoing role in uplifting Pakistan’s economy, acknowledging the strategic significance of Chinese investments and their long-term positive effects on the country’s development.

This high-profile event was a remarkable success, with the launch of these key reports celebrated as a major milestone in further strengthening the already robust economic ties between Pakistan and China. Chairman CCCPK, Wang Huihua, highlighted that since 2013, Chinese enterprises have revolutionized Pakistan’s power sector through 14 CPEC power generation projects, contributing 43% of the country’s installed capacity. Chinese companies have made significant contributions, transforming the power structure towards green and low-carbon, reducing power shortages and generation costs. Despite challenges, Chinese companies remain optimistic about Pakistan’s economic prospects and are committed to supporting sustainable development. The two reports launched today highlight these achievements and provide valuable insights for future business decisions. He also paid tribute to those who had lost their lives for this prosperity.

Ambassador Jauhar Saleem, President of the IRS, emphasized that both reports were vital for boosting confidence in the business communities of both countries and would facilitate increased investments in Pakistan.
