CHINIOT (Agencies): An explosion at the Chiniot Safety Fuse Manufacturing Company (CSFMC) on Rajoa Road injured three individuals on Wednesday, including a Chinese national. The blast occurred inside the factory’s production area, prompting an emergency response from local authorities.

According to police sources, the injured were immediately rushed to District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital Chiniot, where they are said to be in stable condition. The victims have been identified as Chinese engineer Qianj Yuezhou, and local workers Sajid Ali and Tayab.

District Police Officer (DPO) Abdullah Ahmed, along with senior police officials, visited the site to assess the situation. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Safiullah Gondal took notice of the incident and directed hospital authorities to ensure the best possible medical care for the injured.

The explosion took place at a safety fuse manufacturing facility operated by CSFMC, a company established in 1989 that produces various commercial explosives and blasting accessories. The factory, which operates under licenses from Pakistan’s Ministry of Industries and Production, employs both local and foreign experts, including Chinese engineers. It is also ISO-certified and plays a vital role in the country’s mining and industrial blasting sectors.

Though the exact cause of the explosion is still under investigation, the incident has raised concerns over workplace safety standards in hazardous material facilities. Authorities have launched a formal inquiry into the blast, with a focus on ensuring compliance with industrial safety protocols.

This is not the first such incident in Chiniot’s industrial sector. A similar explosion in June 2011 at another factory killed six workers and injured two others, underscoring the recurring risks in the region’s explosive manufacturing units.

Further details are expected following the completion of a full inquiry into Wednesday’s explosion.
