Peshawar (Nadir Khan): Elders of Ahli Sunnat Wal-Jamat Kurram Agency have called upon the Federal Government to collect weapons from both Sunni and Shia factions and implement the decisions of the Apex Committee to ensure lasting peace in Kurram District.

During a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club, the tribal elders highlighted the severe impact of sectarian clashes on the people of Bagan Bazar, Teri Mangal, Boshera Maqbal, and other areas. They emphasized that those affected by the conflict have been deprived of essential supplies like medicine and food, while those in Para Chinar receive continuous aid from the government.

The elders stressed the need for the Federal Government to play its role in achieving permanent peace and warned that failure to collect heavy weapons from both parties would be an injustice to Ahli Sunnat Wal-Jamat. They also expressed astonishment at the government’s inability to implement the Apex Committee’s decisions despite their support.

The ongoing closure of the main Peshawar-Parachinar highway has exacerbated the situation, cutting off over 100 villages in Upper Kurram from essential supplies and leading to increased deaths, particularly among children and patients. The tribal elders urged the government to treat both factions equally and warned that failure to do so could lead to the spread of the issue across the country.

The situation in Kurram District remains tense, with a peace agreement between warring tribal factions still elusive despite efforts by government officials and jirga members. The closure of the highway has also sparked widespread demonstrations, with affected residents staging sit-ins at various locations, including the Kurram Press Club.

The people of Bannu, especially members of the e-Hujra forum, commend the leadership of Mr. Shahidullah Khan and Chairman Asif Qureshi for their vision and dedication. With their guidance, the reconstruction project is set to pave the way for a brighter future for generations to come.
