PESHAWAR (Khyber Mail): The Paraplegic Center Peshawar (PCP) has earned high praise from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for its outstanding discipline, transparency, and humanitarian service, particularly in the rehabilitation of individuals with spinal cord injuries.
During a recent visit to the center, Mr. Bruno Radicchi, Head of Sub-Delegation of the ICRC, accompanied by the Physical Rehabilitation Program (PRP) team, commended PCP as a unique and exemplary institution providing comprehensive physical and psychological rehabilitation services that align with global standards.
Dr. Syed Mohammad Ilyas, CEO of PCP, welcomed the delegation and gave an in-depth briefing on the center’s history, mission, and its wide range of medical and rehabilitative services. The visiting team toured key departments including Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Orthotics and Prosthetics Workshop, Nursing Services, Psychosocial Support, and Sports Rehabilitation, guided by Dr. Amir Zaib, Director of Physical Rehabilitation.
Mr. Radicchi applauded the center’s commitment to holistic care and emphasized the dedication of its staff, led by Dr. Ilyas, in transforming the lives of people with disabilities. He noted that PCP not only treats patients physically but also supports their journey toward independence, employment, and social integration.
The ICRC delegation reaffirmed its ongoing partnership with PCP, particularly in supporting the production of orthotic devices and the procurement of essential foreign materials. They also expressed readiness to renew existing agreements to ensure continued collaboration.
Highlighting the center’s growing capabilities, officials noted PCP’s advancement in the development of both orthotic aids and prosthetic limbs, underlining the skill, innovation, and compassion that define the institution’s approach to rehabilitation.
The visit concluded on a note of mutual appreciation and commitment to strengthening support for individuals with disabilities across Pakistan.
