Islamabad (Khyber Mail): The Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) and the Centre for Law and Security (CLAS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at a formal ceremony held at The Millennium Universal College (TMUC) in Islamabad. This partnership is set to enhance collaborative research, policy dialogue, and academic exchange between the two institutions.

The signing ceremony was attended by notable figures, including Ambassador Sohail Mahmood, Director General ISSI; Mr. Malik Qasim Mustafa, Director of the Arms Control and Disarmament Centre (ACDC); researchers from ISSI; and Ambassador Sardar Masood Khan, President TMUC and CLAS, alongside Dr. Faisal Mushtaq (TI), CEO and Founder of TMUC and CLAS, and Mr. Rehman Azhar, Executive Director of CLAS. Faculty members and students of TMUC were also present. The MoU was officially signed by Ambassador Sohail Mahmood and Ambassador Sardar Masood Khan, symbolizing a significant step toward fostering deeper academic and research linkages.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Sohail Mahmood highlighted the vital role of educational partnerships in bridging the gap between academia and the policy community. He proposed avenues for collaboration such as joint research, co-hosted seminars, and conferences, and invited TMUC students to apply for internships at ISSI. He emphasized making this MoU “a living document through practical cooperation.”

Ambassador Sardar Masood Khan commended the initiative, stating that such collaborations are essential in mentoring future leaders to address emerging challenges. He described the partnership as a gateway to limitless opportunities for engaging with NextGen leaders and shaping their future.

Dr. Faisal Mushtaq applauded both institutions for their commitment to fostering a vibrant exchange of ideas. He expressed optimism that this MoU would lead to joint activities on mutual interests and strengthen bonds within the research and academic communities.

Mr. Rehman Azhar introduced CLAS, which integrates students of law and security studies into real-world policy discussions. He highlighted its focus on areas such as the blue economy, health and food security, climate security, and digital security. The partnership aims to bridge public and private sector collaboration.

The MoU outlines a range of initiatives, including joint research projects, policy roundtables, student and faculty exchanges, and co-authored publications. This collaboration is expected to enrich both institutions and contribute to Pakistan’s broader discourse on law, security, and policy innovation.
