Islamabad (Khyber Mail): The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has reaffirmed its unwavering support for the just cause of the Kashmiri people during a Conflict Resolution Workshop hosted by the India Study Centre (ISC) at the Institute of Strategic Studies, Islamabad (ISSI) in collaboration with the Youth Forum for Kashmir (YFK). The event featured prominent panelists who shed light on the historical and current dynamics of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.

Ambassador Yousef Aldoubeay, Special Envoy of the OIC Secretary-General on Jammu and Kashmir, emphasized the OIC’s steadfast commitment to the Kashmiri people’s struggle for self-determination. He underscored that Jammu and Kashmir remains one of the oldest unresolved disputes on the agendas of both the United Nations and the OIC. Ambassador Aldoubeay also announced that a detailed report on the situation in Jammu and Kashmir would be presented at the upcoming OIC Foreign Ministers’ meeting.

Participants at the event, including leaders like Mr. Ghulam Muhammad Safi and Mr. Altaf Hussain Wani, highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by the Kashmiri people in light of India’s August 5, 2019 actions to alter the region’s disputed status. The panel condemned the systematic human rights violations in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, including curfews, extrajudicial killings, and efforts to change the region’s demographic composition.

The workshop also provided a platform for young fellows to engage in discussions on conflict resolution, culminating in a certificate distribution ceremony. Ambassador Sohail Mahmood, Director General of ISSI, reiterated Pakistan’s appreciation for the OIC’s consistent support for the Kashmir cause, noting the importance of resolving the dispute in accordance with UN resolutions to achieve lasting peace in South Asia.

The OIC’s consistent advocacy for the Kashmiri people and its condemnation of India’s actions continue to shine a spotlight on the humanitarian and political dimensions of the Kashmir issue, ensuring it remains a priority on the international agenda.
