Islamabad (Khyber Mail): The recently established Pakistan Climate Change Authority (PCCA) held its second meeting, emphasizing the importance of strengthening institutional coordination to tackle climate change effectively. Established under the Pakistan Climate Change Act 2017, the PCCA aims to spearhead comprehensive adaptation and mitigation strategies, implementing both national and provincial policies to address growing climate challenges.

During the meeting, the PCCA reviewed and deliberated on climate policies and issues at various levels to further the climate agenda. Romina Khurshid Alam, Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Climate Change, delivered keynote remarks, expressing her satisfaction with the operationalization of the Authority. She stressed the need for effective coordination between the federal government and provinces to reduce Pakistan’s climate vulnerabilities, and called for stronger linkages with businesses, academia, and civil society.

Ms. Aisha Humera Chaudhry, Secretary of the Ministry of Climate Change & Environmental Coordination, welcomed attendees and highlighted ongoing and planned climate initiatives. Chaired by Mr. Ghulam Qadir Shah, Chairperson of the PCCA, the meeting included members from AJK and GB and underscored the need to harmonize policy frameworks in line with national priorities. The PCCA is poised to play a pivotal role in supporting Pakistan’s transition towards a low-carbon and climate-resilient future.
