ISLAMABAD (Khyber Mail): In a groundbreaking move, the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) has established a high-level think tank aimed at addressing key challenges within the country’s engineering sector and formulating strategies for sustainable progress. This initiative is seen as a major step toward enhancing the sector’s contribution to national development.

Chaired by Engineer Wasim Nazir, with Engineer Syed Abdul Qadir Shah (former PEC Chairman) as co-chair, the think tank includes a panel of distinguished engineers and experts from various fields. Members such as Engineer Nazir Hussain, Engineer Dr. Hafsah Jamshed, Engineer Dr. Tahir Masood, and Engineer Sohail Maqbool Malik bring expertise spanning construction, energy, infrastructure, climate change, and water resource management.

The think tank’s primary objectives include:

  • Infra structure Development: Modernizing and upgrading the nation’s infrastructure.
  • Energy Sector Transformation: Paving the way for sustainable energy solutions.
  • Combating Climate Change: Addressing environmental challenges with innovative strategies.
  • Efficient Water Resource Management: Implementing conservation and effective utilization measures.
  • Raising Construction Standards: Promoting advanced and safe practices.
  • Enhancing Engineering Education: Advancing research and professional training.

The PEC emphasized that this initiative has the full backing of relevant authorities. Chair Engineer Wasim Nazir highlighted the think tank’s critical role in modernizing Pakistan’s engineering landscape, while Co-Chair Engineer Syed Abdul Qadir Shah stressed the need for urgent solutions in pivotal areas such as energy and water.

The committee is set to hold its first meeting soon to draft actionable recommendations for policymakers. Industry stakeholders are optimistic about the think tank’s potential to transform Pakistan’s engineering sector and align it with global standards.
