ISLAMABAD (Agencies): In a historic move to combat the global threat of drug trafficking, Pakistan hosted the inaugural Pak-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Anti-Narcotics International Conference on Wednesday. The landmark event brought together high-level delegations from GCC nations, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, and Kuwait.

Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control, Mohsin Naqvi, warmly welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance of a joint strategy to address the growing challenge of narcotics. The conference focused on fostering global cooperation, strengthening bilateral relations, and formulating effective cross-border measures to prevent drug trafficking and abuse.

Director General of Pakistan’s Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), Major General Abdul Muyeed, extended his greetings to the heads of anti-narcotics departments and Director Generals from GCC countries. Speaking at the event, Minister Naqvi termed the summit a significant initiative in the fight against narcotics and a step forward toward ensuring a safer, drug-free future.

“It is an honor and privilege for me to welcome you all to this important conference. Today, we are not just representatives of our states but front-line soldiers united in the fight against narcotics,” Naqvi said, highlighting the shared commitment of Pakistan and GCC nations.

The summit emphasized the need for enhanced collaboration in areas such as intelligence sharing, joint training, real-time communication, and forensic and technical cooperation. Delegates unanimously agreed on strengthening efforts to tackle drug trafficking across borders, while praising Pakistan’s pivotal role in leading international anti-narcotics operations.

The conference marks a significant milestone in global efforts to combat drug trafficking and solidify Pakistan’s position as a key player in international anti-narcotics initiatives.
