Peshawar (Khyber Mail): The Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) has issued formal notices to various government and semi-government departments, urging them to clear outstanding electricity dues, according to a PESCO spokesperson.

In an effort to ensure timely recovery, PESCO has also written to the Finance Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, seeking its support in the matter. The spokesperson warned that electricity connections of defaulting departments will be disconnected if dues are not paid promptly.

PESCO has also released a list of major defaulters. The Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) tops the list with outstanding dues of Rs. 336 million. Government primary schools owe Rs. 542 million, while government higher secondary schools and colleges are in default of Rs. 157 million. Government middle schools owe Rs. 93 million.

The Health Department is reported to owe Rs. 134 million, while Pakistan Railways has dues amounting to Rs. 31.2 million. The National Highway Authority (NHA) has pending dues of Rs. 80.7 million, and the Auqaf Department owes over Rs. 40 million.

The Peshawar Development Authority is liable for Rs. 110 million, while the Kohat Development Authority owes Rs. 96 million. Meanwhile, the Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) Town-1, Peshawar, has outstanding dues of Rs. 293 million.

PESCO emphasized that it will take all necessary measures to recover the dues and maintain financial discipline, including disconnection of power to persistent defaulters.
