Islamabad (Khyber Mail): In a media briefing held in Islamabad, Polish Ambassador Maciej Pisarski highlighted key aspects of Poland’s bilateral ties with Pakistan, Poland’s role in international affairs, and its contributions to addressing global challenges.

The Polish Ambassador underscored the 62-year-long friendly and productive relationship between Poland and Pakistan. Both nations uphold shared values, including respect for sovereignty, legal equality of states, and territorial integrity. Poland congratulated Pakistan on its election to the UN Security Council for 2025-2026 and expressed optimism about collaborative efforts to address global security challenges. The Ambassador appreciated Pakistan’s contributions to UN peacekeeping missions and emphasized mutual support during international crises such as the Kabul evacuation in 2021 and assistance to Pakistani students during the Ukraine conflict.

The Ambassador highlighted the significant increase in trade between the two countries, which grew from €456.74 million in 2018 to €861 million in 2023. The GreenEvo initiative was spotlighted as a successful economic mission promoting green technology solutions through business events in Karachi and Lahore. Additionally, the Polish Oil and Gas Company (POGC)/Orlen Group was commended for its pioneering efforts in Pakistan’s gas sector, with investments exceeding USD 450 million. The Ambassador noted ongoing collaborations with the Pakistani government to ensure the smooth functioning of such ventures.

Poland’s remarkable economic resilience since 1989 was also highlighted, with a GDP increase of 826.96% and significant improvements in the standard of living. Poland has emerged as the fastest-growing large economy among upper-middle and high-income countries, surpassing nations like South Korea and Singapore. The Ambassador emphasized the need for a stable and transparent economic environment in Pakistan to further strengthen trade and investment ties.

Reaffirming Poland’s solidarity with Ukraine, the Ambassador condemned Russia’s ongoing aggression and the involvement of North Korean troops. Poland has allocated over 4.91% of its GDP to aid Ukraine, providing military equipment and humanitarian assistance. The Ambassador emphasized that Russia’s aggression impacts global security, linking European and Asian security paradigms.

The Ambassador addressed the migration crisis at the Polish-Belarussian border, terming it a manifestation of hybrid warfare by Belarus. Poland continues to work closely with EU partners to secure its borders and counter illegal migration.

On the Middle East crisis, the Ambassador reiterated Poland’s commitment to protecting civilians and supporting humanitarian efforts. Poland contributed $5 million in 2024 and over $12.2 million in 2023-2024 to assist Palestinians through UN agencies. The Ambassador reaffirmed Poland’s support for a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine.

The Ambassador concluded by outlining priorities for Poland’s presidency of the EU Council in 2025, focusing on defense, border protection, and combating disinformation. Initiatives to enhance EU-NATO cooperation and address migration root causes were emphasized.

The Ambassador expressed Poland’s commitment to strengthening bilateral and international relationships and addressing global security challenges. The briefing concluded with an invitation for questions from the media.
