Karachi (Khyber Mail): Pakistan’s leading food company, Shan Foods, has announced a strategic partnership with SHINE Humanity to establish a more accessible and affordable healthcare infrastructure across Kunri Tehsil in rural Sindh. The initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (UNSDG) 3: Good Health and Wellbeing, and forms a key component of Shan Foods’ larger “Growing Flavor” initiative. This broader project aims to develop a sustainable agricultural hub in Kunri, which is known as Asia’s largest red chilli production site.
Since launching the “Growing Flavor” initiative three years ago, Shan Foods has implemented a comprehensive community development plan in the region. This includes training sessions and workshops focused on sustainable farming practices, the provision of high-quality seeds to improve harvests, and enhanced trade opportunities aimed at providing better livelihoods for local laborers. These efforts aim to improve both the economic and social conditions of the community.
“We have an all-encompassing, holistic CSR vision for Kunri, where we not only train farmers and agricultural professionals to improve their chilli harvest and trade systems, but by on-boarding CSR partners such as SHINE Humanity, we are also ensuring that these communities have an improved quality of life, including the basics of healthcare, right in their locality,” said Sammer Sultan, co-chairwoman of Shan Foods.
With the addition of SHINE Humanity as a partner, the initiative’s scope is set to expand. The primary goal is to establish a locally accessible healthcare network that is affordable and of high quality. The new partnership is expected to deliver healthcare services directly to the villages, tailored to meet the specific health needs of underprivileged communities.
“As we embark on this meaningful partnership with Shan Foods, we are committed to bringing quality primary healthcare to the rural community of Kunri, Sindh. Together, we’re targeting to uplift the health and well-being of not only those people who work tirelessly in Shan Foods’ chilli farming operations, but the entire community as well by ensuring they have access to the care they need to thrive. The end goal is to create a healthier, more sustainable future, ensuring that those who contribute so much to our food industry are given the care and dignity they truly deserve,” said Faheem Khan, Chief Operating Officer of SHINE Humanity.
Through this partnership, Shan Foods aims to support nearly 1,000 underserved individuals in the Kunri region, reinforcing the company’s broader objective of community empowerment. By improving healthcare access and enhancing welfare infrastructure, the initiative seeks to create lasting, sustainable change for the people of Kunri.
