Islamabad (Agencies): The Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has made a significant advancement in Pakistan’s space research capabilities by establishing a state-of-the-art radio telescope in Balochistan. This development marks a milestone in the country’s efforts to enhance its astronomical research and space observation infrastructure.
The newly established radio telescope is designed to observe and analyze celestial objects and phenomena, contributing to the global scientific community’s understanding of the universe. The facility will enable Pakistani scientists to conduct cutting-edge research in radio astronomy, space weather monitoring, and the study of natural and man-made space objects.
SUPARCO has recently undertaken significant initiatives to advance space research and technology in Pakistan. In October 2024, SUPARCO inaugurated the Space Applications and Research Center (SPARC-GB) in Gilgit-Baltistan, focusing on environmental and socio-economic challenges, including climate change and glacier monitoring. Additionally, in November 2024, SUPARCO launched the RESOLVE R&D Lab at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) in Lahore, aiming to foster collaboration between academia and industry in space technology research.
SUPARCO’s initiative aligns with its mission to promote space science and technology in Pakistan. The radio telescope will also serve as an educational resource, providing opportunities for students and researchers to engage in hands-on learning and contribute to the field of astronomy.
