Peshawar (Khyber Mail): In observance of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV), the U.S. Consulate General Peshawar, in collaboration with Da Hawwa Lur, organized a panel discussion titled “Act Now to End Violence against Women.” The event brought together civil society activists, representatives from women’s associations, students, and academics to discuss critical issues surrounding gender-based violence and women’s empowerment.
The discussion was moderated by International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) alumna Shawana Shah, who expertly guided the conversation. Esteemed panelists included Rukshanda Naz, Provincial Ombudsperson, and Amna Durrani from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Commission on the Status of Women. They shared insights into ongoing local efforts to promote women’s safety, advocate for gender equality, and support survivors of violence.
Public Affairs Officer Robert Tate also addressed the gathering, reaffirming the U.S. Consulate’s commitment to supporting women’s empowerment and taking action against gender-based violence. He highlighted the educational and exchange programs available to women, which aim to create more opportunities for learning, growth, and leadership.
“This panel underscores the importance of collective action to end gender-based violence and support women’s rights. By bringing together key voices from civil society, government, and academia, we are fostering dialogue and driving progress towards a safer, more equitable society for women,” said Robert Tate.
The U.S. Consulate General Peshawar and Da Hawwa Lur aim to raise awareness and inspire decisive action to eliminate all forms of violence and discrimination against women. The event served as a platform for sharing strategies, strengthening networks, and promoting initiatives that protect women’s rights in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and beyond.
