Peshawar (Khyber Mail): The U.S. Consulate General in Peshawar kicked off its 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign with a powerful performance by the theater group SHEZAY. Led by IVLP alumna and human rights activist Wagma Feroz, a recipient of the Stefanus Prize for her human rights advocacy, the group’s piece titled “The Unheard Scream” poignantly highlighted the silent suffering of women and transgender individuals in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Following the performance, Dr. Anoosh Khan, a SUSI for Scholars alumna and chair of the Department of Gender Studies at the University of Peshawar, led an engaging discussion on gender studies and activism with students and consulate staff. This dialogue provided valuable insights into the challenges faced by marginalized groups and the importance of gender equality and activism.
Consul General Shante Moore expressed gratitude to all participants, reaffirming the consulate’s commitment to gender equality and the fight against violence. “This campaign is a testament to our dedication to creating a safer and more inclusive community for all,” Moore stated.
