PESHAWAR (Khyber Mail): The University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Peshawar held its Convocation 2025 today at the Convocation Hall, University of Peshawar, to commemorate the academic accomplishments of its graduating students for the academic session 2023-2024. Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Chancellor Ali Amin Gandapur conferred degrees in the presence of Mr. Meena Khan, Pro-Chancellor and Minister for Higher Education, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, along with Syndicate and Senate members, faculty, and parents.

This was the first-ever convocation of any public sector university in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa presided over by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur since taking charge as Chancellor. A total of 550 graduates received their degrees, including 510 B.Sc. degrees, 5 Ph.D. degrees, and 40 M.Sc. degrees. Additionally, 23 Gold Medals were awarded to high achievers in their respective fields.

The Chief Minister extended heartfelt congratulations to the graduates and scholars and praised UET Peshawar for its progress in developing cutting-edge technologies in Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and Cyber Security. He acknowledged the challenges faced by universities, particularly concerning pension issues, and stated that the outstanding pension liability has been reduced from 75 billion Rs to Rs. 25 billion, with assurances that it would be completely cleared by the end of the year. He reiterated his commitment to making public sector universities self-sustainable and highlighted that the provincial government has awarded scholarships totaling around Rs. 55 crore, with plans to increase the amount further, reaffirming the government’s commitment to providing free education to girls.

Prof. Dr. Qaisar Ali, Vice Chancellor of UET Peshawar, expressed his gratitude towards the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Higher Education Department KP, HEC, and guests. He congratulated the graduates and their parents on their marvelous achievements and mentioned that UET Peshawar has produced 25,800 alumni since its inception in 1952, who have been serving the nation in leading positions. He acknowledged that no university can sustain itself without government support but highlighted that UET Peshawar has made significant strides in generating revenue by introducing new programs with market demand, focusing on energy efficiency, and optimizing human resources.

Later, the Vice Chancellor presented university shields to the Chief Minister and Minister for Higher Education, Mr. Meena Khan.
