Mardan (By: Shahid Ali Tareen): A two-day training workshop aimed at promoting digital strategies to combat violent extremism concluded in Mardan. The event was organized in collaboration with Individualland, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the European Union, the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA), and the Municipal Corporation Mardan. Representatives from various civil society organizations participated in the workshop.

During the sessions, experts explored the root causes of violent extremism, including youth radicalization, and discussed practical solutions to address these challenges. Speakers highlighted that injustice, unequal distribution of resources, unemployment, and the spread of misinformation are key drivers of extremism. They emphasized that fostering a positive narrative, encouraging dialogue, and effectively using digital media are crucial for building a peaceful society.

Trainer Saifullah Khoso led practical exercises on media literacy and fact-checking, while Mashhood Ali conducted sessions focusing on gender-based violence, prevention strategies, and designing impactful digital campaigns. Participants also presented digital campaign ideas they developed during the workshop.

Addressing the attendees, Mayor Mardan Himayatullah Mayar underscored the importance of collective efforts to tackle extremism. “The city’s prosperity depends on social leaders and stakeholders working together to address shared challenges. We are hopeful that, in collaboration with Individualland, we will soon develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to combat extremism and conflict,” he said.

The workshop provided a valuable platform for civil society organizations to exchange ideas, discuss innovative digital strategies, and strengthen efforts to prevent violent extremism in the region.
