Springfield, Ohio (Agencies): Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has confirmed that 33 bomb threats made against schools in Springfield were hoaxes traced back to overseas sources.
The threats, which began last week, prompted evacuations and heightened security measures across the city’s schools.
Governor DeWine announced that the Ohio State Highway Patrol has been deployed to provide security at all 17 school buildings in the Springfield City School District.
The troopers will conduct daily sweeps and remain on campus throughout the school day.
The threats, which were found to be unfounded, have caused significant disruption.
Two colleges in the area, Wittenberg University and Clark State College, have moved to virtual learning as a precaution.
Governor DeWine emphasized that the threats are believed to be part of a broader attempt to create chaos and fear, originating from overseas.
The FBI is assisting local law enforcement in investigating the source of these threats.
