Islamabad (Agencies): Pakistan and Turkey are set to establish a mega factory in Pakistan with an annual production capacity of 120,000 155mm artillery shells. The agreement was signed during the 12th International Defense Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS 2024) held in Pakistan.

Under the deal, Turkish defense company Repkon will collaborate with Pakistan’s Wah Industries Limited (WIL) to set up the production and filling line for the artillery shells. The facility will not only cater to Pakistan’s military needs but also support international exports.

The factory will include an explosive filling line and will locally manufacture explosives and laser guidance kits. This move is part of a broader effort to meet the growing global demand for 155mm artillery ammunition, which has been highlighted by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Wah Industries Limited operates under the Pakistan Ordnance Factories, the organization responsible for manufacturing systems, ammunition, and military hardware to support the Pakistan Armed Forces and for export. Repkon, based in Istanbul, specializes in designing and manufacturing metal forming machines and turnkey production plants.

The collaboration between Pakistan and Turkey underscores the strategic importance of enhancing defense capabilities and ensuring a steady supply of critical military equipment. This partnership is expected to significantly boost Pakistan’s defense manufacturing capabilities and contribute to regional stability.
