New York (Agencies): Pakistani-American police officer Zegham Abbas has been promoted to the rank of Captain in the New York Police Department (NYPD), marking a significant milestone in his 16-year career in law enforcement.
A special ceremony was held at the NYPD headquarters at One Police Plaza to honor Captain Abbas’s achievement. The event was attended by senior NYPD officials, family members, and friends who celebrated his success.
Originally from Lahore, Pakistan, Captain Abbas attended King Edward Medical College before moving to the United States in 2003 through a student exchange program. He later completed his medical degree at Albert Einstein College of Medicine before joining the NYPD in 2009. Over the years, he has made remarkable progress, now reaching the prestigious rank of Captain.
Speaking at the ceremony, Captain Abbas highlighted the NYPD’s career progression structure, explaining that officers can advance from Captain to One-Star Chief, Two-Star Chief, and Three-Star Chief, with the Four-Star Chief being the highest rank in the department. He also emphasized that the promotion to Captain is the final step in NYPD’s promotional exams.
Prominent political and social figures in New York, including Aslam Dholon, congratulated Captain Abbas and expressed confidence that he would continue to serve the Pakistani-American community with dedication.
