Vinhedo, Brazil (Agencies): A plane crash has claimed the lives of 68 people, including eight cancer experts. The VoePass Airline flight, a twin-engine turboprop ATR 72-500, was en route from Cascavel to São Paulo when it crashed into a residential area in Vinhedo, São Paulo State, on August 9, 2024.

Among the victims were six leading oncologists and two resident medics who were traveling to a cancer conference in São Paulo. The plane was at an altitude of 16,000 feet when it went into a “death spiral” and plummeted to the ground, bursting into flames. Eyewitnesses reported seeing the plane stall before it crashed.

This incident marks one of the worst aviation disasters in Brazil since 2007. The loss of these dedicated medical professionals is a significant blow to the medical community, particularly in the field of oncology.
