Moscow (Agencies): In a significant move, President Vladimir Putin has signed a presidential decree to increase the number of active service personnel in the Russian army to nearly 2.4 million.
This decree, signed on September 16, 2024, will take effect on December 1, 2024, and will add 180,000 new troops to the existing forces.
The decree aims to bolster the Russian military’s capabilities amid ongoing conflicts and geopolitical tensions.
The total number of military personnel will now include 1.5 million active troops.
This expansion comes as Russia continues its military operations in Ukraine, which have been ongoing for over two and a half years.
Critics argue that this move may further escalate tensions in the region and put additional strain on the country’s resources.
However, the Russian government maintains that the increase is necessary to ensure national security and support ongoing military efforts.
