Moscow (Agencies): Russia’s Ministry of Defense announced on Saturday that its forces have reclaimed the village of Oleshnya in the border region of Kursk during active offensive operations. The village had been one of the last footholds of Ukrainian forces in the area. However, fierce fighting persists in the nearby settlement of Gornal, approximately seven miles south of Oleshnya, as Russia attempts to fully liberate the region.
Russian officials stated that the “North” military group was responsible for the liberation of Oleshnya, though the Associated Press has not independently verified these claims, and Ukrainian officials have yet to respond.
According to reports from Russian state news agency TASS, securing Gornal remains critical to completing control of the Kursk region. Clashes in the area are described as intense, underscoring the ongoing battle between the two nations.
Meanwhile, Russia has faced overnight attacks from Ukraine, with its Ministry of Defense reporting the interception or electronic jamming of dozens of Ukrainian explosive drones and decoys. Ukrainian Air Force acknowledged damage to farms in Odesa and fires in Sumy due to Russian strikes, although no casualties were reported.
