Damascus (Agencies): The Syrian presidency has announced the death of Luna Al-Shibl, media adviser to President Bashar Al-Assad, following a car accident on a road leading to the capital, Damascus, Ma’an news reported.

The presidency said that the accident caused the vehicle Al-Shibl was travelling in to veer off course and crash multiple times, resulting in her sustaining severe injuries and a head bleed.

Al-Shibl was transferred to intensive care before being pronounced dead.

The presidency mourned the late media adviser, who served as director of the Political and Media Office at the Presidential Palace for several years before becoming a special adviser.

Al-Shibl, born in the predominantly Druze province of Suwayda, assumed her role in 2011 after resigning from Al Jazeera TV channel. She was present at most of Al-Assad’s meetings with delegations, heads of states and ministers at his palace in Damascus.

She was among the prominent Syrian figures sanctioned by the US in 2020.
