- UAE Announces High-Speed Rail Project to Link Abu Dhabi and Dubai
Abu Dhabi (Agencies): The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has launched a major high-speed rail project designed to connect the capital, Abu Dhabi, with Dubai. This initiative is set to revolutionize the country’s transport system by drastically reducing travel time between the two cities.
During an official ceremony attended by Crown Prince Khaled Bin Mohammed Bin Zayed of Abu Dhabi and Crown Prince Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid of Dubai, the Etihad Rail Company unveiled the project. The new rail system, operating at speeds up to 350 kilometers per hour, will enable travel between Abu Dhabi and Dubai in just 30 minutes.
This ambitious plan is expected to make a significant impact on daily commutes, alleviating traffic congestion and offering a fast, efficient alternative for both residents and tourists. The project is projected to contribute up to 145 billion dirhams ($39.47 billion) to the UAE’s GDP over the next 50 years.
Etihad Rail will oversee the development and operation of the service. The network will feature key stations in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Fujairah, strategically connecting major business and tourist hubs.
The project is in line with the UAE’s long-term vision to promote sustainable development. The rail network will be powered entirely by electricity, supporting the country’s “Net Zero 2050” initiative aimed at reducing carbon emissions.
While tenders for contracts have already been issued and designs for the rail system have been approved, the project is expected to be completed in the coming years. The official opening date for the rail service has not yet been announced.
This new rail project marks a milestone in the UAE’s efforts to enhance its infrastructure and provide eco-friendly, cutting-edge transportation solutions for its citizens and visitors.
