WASHINGTON (Agencies): President Donald Trump and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer are meeting at the White House to discuss security guarantees for Ukraine, according to senior officials. Upon Starmer’s arrival, Trump was asked if he could secure a peace deal for Ukraine, to which he responded, “we can, we will.” However, Trump dismissed the idea of robust security guarantees that Starmer sees as vital to ensuring any peace agreement can endure. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is set to meet with Trump on Friday.

In addition to the talks on Ukraine, Trump announced that tariffs of 25% on Mexican and Canadian goods will take effect on March 4. He also threatened to impose an additional 10% on Chinese imports on the same date. Mexico, China, and Canada are America’s top three trading partners, and simultaneous tariffs on all three nations could lead to soaring prices for American consumers, especially at a time when inflation is already heating up.

Trump accepted an invitation from King Charles for a state visit to the UK. This makes Trump the first elected political leader in modern times to be hosted for two state visits by a British monarch.
