Ankara (Agencies): Turkey has announced its willingness to send troops to Ukraine if required as part of a potential peacekeeping mission, a Turkish defense ministry source confirmed. The decision would be made in coordination with relevant parties to support regional stability and peace efforts.

This development comes amid discussions by European nations, including the United Kingdom and France, about deploying forces to monitor a potential ceasefire in Ukraine. The United States, however, has ruled out sending American troops.

Turkey’s involvement would depend on a declared ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia, with an initial deployment likely consisting of non-combatant units for ceasefire monitoring. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has reportedly discussed the matter with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in separate meetings in Ankara.

Throughout the ongoing conflict, Turkey has maintained a balanced diplomatic stance, avoiding Western sanctions against Moscow while actively engaging in mediation efforts. Ankara previously played a key role in brokering the Black Sea grain export deal, highlighting its role as a regional mediator.

The feasibility of deploying peacekeeping forces depends on successful ceasefire negotiations and consent from all involved parties. Turkey’s potential involvement underscores its commitment to regional stability and strategic interests in the Black Sea region.
