Kyiv (Agencies): Ukraine has announced that it has become the world’s fifth country to possess a laser weapon, named “Trident” (Tryzub in Ukrainian). The weapon, developed by Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces, is capable of downing aircraft at altitudes exceeding 2 kilometers.
Colonel Vadym Sukharevskyi, Commander of the Ukrainian Drone Forces, revealed the development during a conference on European Defense Industry cooperation. He stated, “We can state that today Ukraine is, if I’m not mistaken, the fifth country that can say it has a laser weapon. We are already able to shoot down planes at an altitude of more than 2 kilometers with this laser.”
The Trident laser weapon is part of Ukraine’s broader efforts to enhance its defense capabilities amid ongoing tensions with Russia. The weapon is currently undergoing scaling and strengthening efforts to improve its effectiveness.
In addition to the Trident laser, Ukraine is also developing “mother drones” capable of launching smaller strike drones, further enhancing its military capabilities.
