Kyiv (Agencies): Ukraine has launched drone attacks on three military airfields in Russia, including one that hosts aircraft capable of carrying hypersonic missiles.
These strikes are part of Ukraine’s ongoing incursion into Russia’s Kursk region, targeting military and infrastructure sites to weaken Moscow’s war capabilities.
Russian officials claim their air defenses have intercepted many of these drones, but social media reports suggest significant damage. Notably, airfields in Borisoglebsk, Baltimore, and the Kulebaksky district have been targeted, with reports of explosions and fires.
The Borisoglebsk airfield in the Voronezh region hosts Su-25, Su-30, Su-34, and Su-35 aircrafts.
The Baltimore airfield, also in the Voronezh region, is home to Sukhoi Su-34 and Su-24M aircrafts.
Meanwhile, the Savasleyka air base in the Kulebaksky district of Nizhny Novgorod region hosts Mikoyan MiG-31 aircraft, which can carry Kinzhal hypersonic missiles.
The attacks aim to prevent Russia from using these airbases to launch strikes on Ukrainian positions.
The Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) confirmed the coordinated effort with various military branches to carry out these strikes.
The full impact of the attacks is still being assessed, with satellite images expected to provide further details.
