Kyiv, Ukraine (Agencies): In a significant boost to its defense capabilities, Ukraine is set to receive another batch of F-16 fighter jets from Denmark by the end of 2024.
This announcement was made by Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen, who confirmed that the delivery is part of Denmark’s ongoing support for Ukraine amid its conflict with Russia.
The F-16s are expected to enhance Ukraine’s ability to intercept Russian drones and helicopters, which have been a critical component of Moscow’s ground offensive.
This move follows the initial delivery of F-16s to Ukraine in late July, marking a continued effort to strengthen Kyiv’s air defense capabilities.
Denmark has committed to supplying a total of 19 F-16s, with the exact number and delivery dates of the upcoming batch remaining classified for operational security reasons.
The F-16 Fighting Falcon, known for its versatility and effectiveness in both air-to-air and air-to-ground missions, will significantly bolster Ukraine’s defense strategy.
The delivery of these jets is part of a broader coalition effort, including the Netherlands and other NATO allies, to support Ukraine’s defense needs.
The coalition was formed after the U.S. lifted its objections to providing American-made jets to Ukraine in May 2023.
As Ukraine continues to train its pilots and maintenance crews, the addition of these F-16s is seen as a crucial step in enhancing its military capabilities and resilience against ongoing threats.
