Khujand (Khyber Mail): On March 31, the Presidents of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan gathered in Khujand for a trilateral summit, marking a significant step toward regional cooperation and stability. The meeting, attended by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan, President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan, and President Sadyr Japarov of Kyrgyzstan, focused on a range of bilateral and multilateral issues, alongside cultural celebrations marking the sacred holiday of Ramadan Hayit and the spring festival of Navruz.
The leaders exchanged congratulations and emphasized their shared commitment to peace and prosperity in the region. One of the summit’s most notable outcomes was the signing of the Treaty on the Junction Point of the State Borders between the three nations. This agreement, alongside the earlier Treaty on the Delimitation of State Borders, aims to promote stability and foster regional development. The newly unveiled Friendship Monument, placed at the junction of the three countries’ borders, will serve as a lasting symbol of strengthened ties and strategic partnership.
President Mirziyoyev also highlighted the importance of maintaining high-level dialogues and proactive regional cooperation. In addition to the signing of the landmark treaties, the leaders discussed expanding trade, modernizing border customs checkpoints, and increasing intercity connectivity. Proposals were made to establish a trilateral trade platform and to enhance cooperation in sectors such as green energy, water resources management, and environmental protection.
The cultural exchange program in Khujand further deepened ties among the countries, with the leaders visiting the historical Khujand Fortress, a site of immense archaeological significance dating back to the 6th-5th centuries BCE. The fortress has been partially restored, with a museum and artisan workshops showcasing the rich heritage of the region.
Additionally, a concert featuring cultural performances from all three nations celebrated their shared history, while also strengthening bonds through music and art. President Mirziyoyev emphasized that the region’s future lies in collaboration and mutual trust, urging for continued efforts to enhance business, cultural exchanges, and connectivity between the countries.
The trilateral summit not only reaffirmed the importance of regional cooperation but also set the stage for future joint ventures in areas such as trade, industry, and cultural diplomacy. The next key regional event will be the Central Asia–European Union Summit in Samarkand, focusing on addressing environmental challenges, further solidifying the role of these nations in regional and global affairs.
